Busó Fesztivál – Mohács, Hungary | March

 During February in the small Hungarian town of Mohács Buso, the festival is celebrated throughout the week. During this festival, people are dressed up as horned monsters, sokci dresses, and red lipstick and they wander the town swilling wines and pálinka, and making lots of noise. There is food, music, decorations just like other carnivals. It is celebrated to scare off the Ottoman forces and the end of the winter.

Cheung Chau Bun Festival – Hong Kong | May

The Cheung Chau Bun Festival is one of the liveliest and certainly one-of-a-kind of Hong Kong Festivals, full of folklore and tradition and sets in picturesque Cheung Chau Island, just a short ferry ride from the city. Bamboo mountains are the main symbol of the festival, covered with handmade buns which are located near the Pak Tai Temple where the majority of the celebrations take place.

Baby Jumping Fiesta – Spain | Jun

Historians believe that Salto del Colacho or ‘Jump on the Colacho’ took place in the 1600s. In this festival man dressed up as Devils wearing a colourful Costume and mask runs around the town with a whip to instil terror in the people in return the local insults him. The devil runs over the babies born in the same or previous year like Olympic runners. Once the devils run over the babies they are cleansed with the rose water. It is believed that the devils absorb all the negatives and immuniSe the children. 

Yorkshire Pudding Boat Race – Brawby, UK | June

See if you’re daft enough to take to the water in a giant Yorkshire pudding. Simon Thackray, the man behind The Shed arts venue at Brawby, near Malton, came up with the idea for the watery madness. His nephews Robbie and Jack Thackray, aged nine and eight respectively, took the plunge as the 3ft Yorkshire pudding underwent trials yesterday at Manor Farm, Brawby.

Mud Festival – South Korea | July

Spread throughout Daecheon Beach and downtown Boryeong, festivities begin in the first half of the day, spectators are transported by bus and then to the sea, carefully prepared with piles of mud sent from the area through mud pipes. Trie-Sur -Baise, France’s largest pig-rearing area, holds the annual Festival of the Pig, La Pourcailhade. Since 1975 this amazing event has been held on the 2nd Sunday in August.” La Confrérie du Cochon” organises the festival, The festival involves displays, pig races, eating contests and other competitions.

 La Tomatina – Spain | August

La Tomatina is the world’s largest approved food war. Every year, some 40,000 tomato enthusiasts visit the small Mediterranean town of Buñol to exchange tomatoes. After the food battle, next week there will be big shows, fireworks and paella cooking competitions.

 Lopburi Monkey Banquet – Thailand | November
