Beautiful Historic Places In Lucknow

Lucknow city has a unique charm to it. It is always a significant economic and educational hub in India, which ensures that we are about two decades into the 21st century. 

Moreover, the City of Nawabs is also a gem of a tourist destination, tempting people from near and far to plan a trip with their domestic and friends.

Its biggest draw is its plethora of marvelous Mughal and British-era structures that have stood the test of time to give persons a glimpse of the past.

  • Chota Imambara
Chota Imambara

ChotaImambara in Lucknow was built in the year 1838 by Nawab Muhammad Shah Ali. The complex also helps as the tomb for the Nawab, who is buried there alongside his mother. Right outside the complex also lays the four-storied Satkhanda, an unfinished watchtower or building which was hypothetical to have seven stories. The Nawab wanted to make a tower as tall as the Qutab Minar and is similar to the Leaning Tower of Pisa in design.

Lucknow Zoo is known as The Prince of Wales Zoological Park. And this is across 71.6 acres of land. This zoo was built in the year of 1921 to welcome the arrival of the Prince of Wales. It contains numerous species of birds, animals, and reptiles. The zoo is well-known for breeding and rare housing species like the White Tiger, Indian Wolf, Hog Deer, etc.

The Chowk area is one of the oldest markets in Lucknow city, India. It is one of those places in the city that are a window into its amusing cultural heritage. Beginning from Chikan work to succulent kebabs and MakhanMalai, Lucknow Chow is one of the main shopping and food hub.

The Chowk market has more than 5000 shops spread around the fine. The labyrinthine cobweb of streets on both sides and is intermittently taking much of the road itself. In these quaint shops, both bricked shops as well as temporary ones, you will find reliable Chikankari and zardozi dresses, traditional handmade jewelry, handcrafted home décor items from wood, bamboo, and ivory, nagara shoes, Ittar or perfume made from essence of real flowers, and limitless other small and oversized items, in selections beyond your imagination.

  • Husainabad Clock Tower
Husainabad Clock Tower

Standing tall together with the Rumi Darwaza, this was built in 1881 and is the highest clock tower in India. It is 67 meters high, displaying Victorian-Gothic brilliance with a 14 feet long pendulum and a dial in a 12 petalled flower figure.

It was only in 2010 that this physically operated clock was upgraded to an electrical watch. Towards the end of 2011, this clock progressively made the tall clock tower metal noise after 27 years.

This four-faced structure of the clock has been replicated based on the famous clock tower in England, Big Ben. This tower is enclosed by vegetable and fruit vendors, even local food stalls. There is a Husainabad reservoir also nearby.
