Prime Minister Narendra Modi today laid the foundation for the Noida International Airport at Jewar, which will serve as the logistics gateway and groundbreaking model for connectivity for northern India.
Addressing the gathering at the ceremony, the PM said – “ Noida International Airport will be a great model from the point of view of connectivity. Passengers will be able to use taxis, metro, rail to access Yamuna Expressway, Noida, Greater Noida, UP, Delhi, and Haryana. The airport will also have direct connectivity to the Delhi corridor and function as a logistics gateway for northern India and an image of the National Gati Shakti Master Master Plan.”
The airport will be the second international aerodrome in Delhi NCR and the first phase is scheduled to be completed by September 2024. It is being built at a cost of more than ₹ 10,050 crores, and according to an official release, the state government is spending ₹ 4,326 crores on the groundwork in respect to land acquisition and rehabilitation of the affected families has already been completed. Spread over 1,330 acres of land, it is being developed by Zurich Airport International AG.

The airport will have one runway, one terminal building, and the capacity to handle 1.2 crore passengers every year. By the time all its four phases of construction are completed in 2040, the net passenger capacity will be 7 crores per year. The cargo terminal will have an initial capacity of 20 metric tonnes and will later be expanded up to 80 metric tonnes.
As a major development, the airport is set to have its MRO – maintenance, repair, and overhaul facility for both domestic and international carriers and is expected to save some Rs 15,000 crore spent on aircraft maintenance as more than 85% of them is sent out of the country. It will be the country’s first zero-emission airport.
It will be the fourth largest international airport in the world and would serve to de-congest the Indira Gandhi International Airport while being a strategic link between the cities of Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Agra, Faridabad, and their neighboring areas by connecting with Yamuna Expressway, Western Peripheral Expressway, Eastern Peripheral Expressway, Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
According to the Uttar Pradesh government, it would create over one lakh job opportunities and make it the only state in the country to have five airports. By the smooth facilitation of industrial products, the airport will be crucial in boosting industrial growth, attracting investments in the region, and enabling the trade of local products into national and international markets.
This will bring new opportunities for upcoming enterprises, and also create several employment opportunities.
Prime Minister had earlier tweeted on the occasion –
“Tomorrow, 25th November is a major day for India’s and Uttar Pradesh’s strides in infra creation. At 1 PM, the foundation stone of the Noida International Airport will be laid. This project will significantly boost commerce, connectivity, and tourism”
