The opening ceremony for the winter games is scheduled for February 4. The evening will start with the Parade of Nations at 5:30 PM IST. The event will be hosted at Bird’s Nest stadium in Beijing.
Fourteen years after the world was astonished by the memorable opening as well as closing ceremonies to celebrate the Beijing 2008 Summer Games, the dazzling venue in the Chinese capital will once again light up for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
The programme will showcase the rich heritage along with a few cultural programmes. The traditional Parade of Nations will consist of participants of every country proudly marching past with their country’s flag.
The opening ceremony indicates the official beginning of the Winter Olympics. As for the first time in Winter Olympics, nations can have 2 flag bearers i.e one man and one woman. India will have only one flag bearer. Alpine skier Mohammad Arif Khan will be the sole representative at the Winter Olympics 2022. Currently, India stands at the 23rd position in the Parade of Nations in Beijing.
Mohammad Arif Khan, who will be competing in the slalom and giant slalom events in Winter Olympics, will be carrying the hopes of a billion Indians who anticipate a medal while watching him representing their home.
“I always wanted to be someone who would draw a line for the generation to follow. I’m feeling very happy and proud to be carrying the flag in the Opening Ceremony, which will be seen by the world,” Mohammad Arif Khan told Outlook.
Critically acclaimed Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou, who also directed the last Beijing 2008 Summer Games opening and closing ceremonies, will be also directing this year’s opening ceremony for Winter Olympics 2022. As per sources, the cultural programme will feature around 3,000 performers.
Google honoured the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022 with a doodle on Friday (February 4). The doodle features six cute animals, a snowboarding leopard, an ice-dancing rabbit, a curling mouse, a fox playing hockey, and a wings-flapping duck on skis.
“The competitive critters featured in today’s Doodle have gathered from all over the world under the winter sky to keep their cool and put their opponents on the ice. Who will be pouncing on victory and scurrying home an international legend?” Google Doodle said.
However, India on Thursday put a diplomatic ban on the Beijing Winter Olympics. The decision was taken after it was announced Beijing has decided to make Qi Fabao, a PLA regiment commander as a torchbearer during the “Torch Relay”. Qi fought against India and sustained a head injury while fighting in the Galwan Valley border.
