PETA India announced Alia Bhatt as its 2021 Person of the Year. Her outstanding acting skills set her apart, and now she has added another feather to her cap.
PETA celebrates Alia Bhatt’s work in support of the animal-friendly fashion industry and her advocacy for dogs and cats in need.
PETA India director of celebrity and public relations, Sachin Bangera said that Alia Bhatt is not only helping to advance vegan fashion but also encouraging the next generation to be kind towards animals.
Last year Alia Bhatt had launched her vegan kidswear line, Ed-a-Mamma, for children to play in, have fun in and just live in, which was also awarded the 2021 PETA India fashion award for helping to nurture kids’ love for animals and nature.
Alia Bhatt is ardently involved in animal welfare activities and regularly voices out the need for stronger animal protection laws. In October 2021, she invested in Phool, the company behind Fleather.
“Phool incense is made from recycled flowers so it is carbon-free and helps keep our rivers clean. Phool also makes bio leather from recycled flowers and this ‘Fleather’ is a humane alternative to leather”.
Earlier in 2017, she had launched an animal welfare platform, Coexist to educate and engage communities to build a future in which man and nature live together in harmony.
“I believe that each one of us has a personal responsibility to our planet. And since animals, plants, oceans have no voice of their own, we should speak up for them as well. Coexist is a program I’ve set up with a vision that man lives in harmony with animals and nature”
