Offbeat places of Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh is not the first choice that comes to our mind when it comes to travel. But, many of you might not know that Uttar Pradesh is a hidden gem waiting to be explored. So, let’s sit back and know what are some offbeat places hidden in the heart of Uttar Pradesh waiting to be explored. 

Mahoba

A place filled with both nature along with rich history. Mahoba is famous for its temples, yes temples that are built on hills, valleys as well as myriad lakes. The masterminds behind these massive man-made forts as well as a hilltop fort were Chandela kings.

It was there mastering or say engineering due which we have such rich culture in Mahoba. The Sun Temple at Rahila, which was built around the 9th century, is an impressive granite structure in that area

Barua Sagar

Barua Sagar sits at the hilltop fort on the banks of Betwa. The name was originated due to its man-made lake construction by Raja Udai Singh of Orchha. A place with beautiful scenic views is sure you don’t wanna miss.

It is also a place where the Marathas fought the Bundelas back in 1744. 

Kalinjar

Situated at a  distance of 280-km from Jhansi, Kalinjar is a small fort town that has had very crucial importance since medieval times. The Kalinjar Fort offers the panoramic vista of the imposing Vindhyas. Just in case you’re a Shaivite or are just amused by historical spots of religious significance, we suggest you visit the Neelkanth Temple in this area.

The temple is believed to be built at the spot where Lord Shiva rested for a while after consuming poison from the churning of the ocean. 

Sonbhadra

Sonbhadra is known for its religious importance as it is a place where the remnants of the Mahabharata era can be found. Plus, the Shiv Dwar and Renukeshwar temples are also in this area.

Besides religious places, Sonbhadra has a variety of other things to offer like Fossil Park, Lakhaniya Dari, and Mukka falls. In fact, you will be surprised to see how much this small place has including cave paintings! And, if you make it to Sonbhadra, don’t forget to visit the Vijaygarh Fort.
