On Tuesday, June 28, Telangana declared its Intermediate Public Examination or Class XII board results where conjoined twins Veena and Vani secured 712 and 707 marks out of 1,000, respectively. They have been under the care of Telangana’s women and child welfare department since birth. Also in 2020, they both secured 9.3 and 9.2 CGPA in their Class X examination
The parents of the conjoined twins could not afford their medical expenses so they decided to leave them under the state’s care.
While speaking to the press, the twins thanked the state education department for allowing them to write the examination even though they could have done it only together and not in isolation.
The twins were also offered some extra time based on their medical condition. However, they refused the same. In fact, they completed the whole exam in the scheduled span of time.
The twins were under the care of Niloufer Hospital till 13 years of age because of their father’s poor financial condition. As the twins required constant medical attention.
After their stay in Niloufer Hospital, Veena and Vani were moved to a house run by the women and child welfare department. Tutors were also assigned to twins by the state in order to help them with their education at Niloufer Hospital and at the home.
Since their birth, many efforts have been made to separate the twins surgically by experts across India including an expert team from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)-New Delhi, who said the surgical separation is risky.
By 2015, Veena and Vani had given up hope of separation and living their life as conjoined beings. Meanwhile, their father Murali requested the state government to give financial aid in order to support the living expense of the children.
