India has become the latest addition to the series of countries looking to improvise their cyber security laws. There will be seen a major makeover to the country’s existing data protection policies according to the proposed Personal Data Protection Bill. Data Privacy is one of the top key notch points to be considered in this tech-savvy era.
And this year on the Data Privacy Day which was on January 28, came up with the theme “Privacy Matters” for 2022, to sensitize individuals and disseminate privacy practices and principles. Since The Information Technology Act, 2000 has not been able to keep up with the dynamic changes in the virtual world, hence India has begun to see a huge surge in cyberattacks and cybercriminals have discovered more innovative ways of stealing personal data.

A separate regulator called the Data Protection Authority of India would be established to regulate and protect the data of the citizens. Also, the bill introduces data protection officers in organizations. If the organizations sustain a proactive approach and work to achieve the data protection standards, containing data leaks and privacy breaches might not be a task. Through this bill, the organizations will get help in understanding and classifying the data, preventing and detecting leaks if any, and securing the data.
Features of the bill
Organizations have been left baffled to find newer ways of safeguarding the privacy of internet users. The attacks on the famous personalities and the common public have had an impact on the regulatory landscape, hence the proposed PDP Bill comes at the right time to regulate India’s rampant growth. The first law was solely made for the protection and privacy of data. The law also limits the purpose for which data could be used and mandates the data should be collected only for essential services.
