Karnataka’s Chief Minister Basavaraj S Bommai said that the state’s fight against polio is the “most successful”.
Recently he launched the Pulse Polio campaign at his home office ‘Krishna’ and said,
“Though India has been freed from polio, the polio immunization programme is held for three days every year. We have witnessed the adverse effects of polio 25 years ago. Polio was responsible for disability among a large section of the people and it has also proved fatal. A war was launched against it and it has been controlled after oral vaccines were developed”
This Polio Immunization Programme is conducted twice in the early part of each year.
Polio is an infectious disease that largely affects children under 5 years of age. In about 0.5 percent of cases. It moves from the gut to affect the central nervous system.
Polio drives are taking place in many parts of the country in order to curb the problem.

Karnataka also got popularised after the success of Yoga in the state. He said
“Panchamasali Mutt Seer Jagadguru Vachanananda Swami has contributed immensely in popularising Yoga. He has earned the title of ‘Shwasa(breathing) Guru’ for his achievement in imparting Yoga training to the people.”
