With the rise in temperature i.e above 40 degrees Celsius, zoo management has made new arrangements to provide relief to the animals from the heat waves.
For this ‘khas’ mats have been installed along with sprinklers and desert coolers around the animal’s cages.
As the crowd is decreasing low day by day mostly because of hot weather, zoo inmates will have ample amount of time to enjoy their time throughout the day.
Piyush Mohan Srivastava, range forest officer of Lucknow zoo, said, “Desert coolers and water tubs have been put in enclosures of animals like tiger, bear, lion, chimpanzee while bird enclosures have been covered with khas mats. We are still working upon providing complete protection to the inmates.”
Additionally, Veterinary officer Dr. Brijendra said, “We have begun providing melons and cucumbers to inmates. Food items like eggs are being replaced with other products. Vitamins and supplements have also been added to animal’s diet.”
