Mission UP 2022:New projects unfolding

I know just like me even you are excited about the upcoming election of 2022 in the fourth largest state of India ( by area) with a recorded close to 200 million (20 crore) inhabitants in the 2011 census–Uttar Pradesh. The trend of bombarding the state with multiple “development” projects and schemes during election time isn’t new. It is important to understand how the new development projects contribute to the development of the state and its people.

What do you get in this article?

This article primarily focuses on the two latest projects of the Uttar Pradesh government which promise development and employment, namely, the 350-acre Medical Device Park and 250 acres Electronic Park.

What is a Medical Device Park?

The Uttar Pradesh government will set up a medical device park in Noida which will attract an investment of ₹5,250 crores and provide employment to more than 20,000 people. The Uttar Pradesh government announces the mega projects months before assembly elections. For the aforementioned ambition project, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has earmarked 350 acres of land. It will be the first medical device park in Uttar Pradesh and the largest in North India.

In order to expedite the production of medical equipment, the state government will allot ready sheds to the industries.

What led India to have Medical Device Parks in the country?

India’s dependence on China for raw materials of medicines and its shortage following the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) outbreak prompted the ministry of health and family welfare and concerned departments to promote the Make in India programme in the medical field by setting up pharma and medical devices parks, according to the UP government.

IIT Kanpur will help to set up an incubation centre over five acres of land at the medical device park. The incubation centre is the special feature of the medical device park in Noida. It will provide startups with facilities such as business and technical facilities, mentorship, early development funds, networks and relationships, cooperative spaces, laboratory facilities, mentoring and advisory support.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath suggested Lucknow and Noida as two centres for establishing the parks after the Central government announced its decision to set up four medical device parks across the country.

Electronic Park

The electronic park project comes weeks after the Uttar Pradesh government announced the medical device park in Noida.

The ambitious electronic park to unfold in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) area. The project will attract an investment of ₹50,000 crore, according to Yeida CEO Arun Veer Singh. The growing interest in Uttar Pradesh among electronic industry giants is due to “investor-friendly” policies. It has prompted the government to develop the Electronic Park, according to the officials.

The 250 acre Park will be either in Sector 14, or Sector 10 of Yeida near Jewar Airport.

What’s more in store?

The other ambitious projects include Jewar Airport, Film City, Toy Park and Leather Park announced by the Uttar Pradesh government. All the announcements were made ahead of the assembly elections. The government has claimed that Toy Park and Leather Park will provide employment to over 10,000 people.
