TV journalist Rohit Sardana
Another renowned personality who succumbed to Covid 19 today is famous TV journalist Rohit Sardana, leaving journalists and others shocked and heartbroken. Rohit Sardana was with Aaj Tak and was famous for his show ‘Dangal’ that featured debates on current affairs. He earlier worked with Zee News, where he was the host of ‘Taal Thok Ke’.
He was awarded the Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Puraskar by the government in 2018.
Chandro Tomar aka Shooter Dadi
The 89-year-old legendary sharpshooter Chandro Tomar, famously known as ‘Shooter Dadi’, hailed from the Baghpat village in Uttar Pradesh. She was admitted to a Meerut hospital on April 26 after she tested positive for COVID19.
Chandro Tomar picked up the gun for the first time when she was over 60 years, but went on to win many national competitions. She was believed to have been the oldest woman sharpshooter in the world.
She was also the inspiration for ‘Saand Ki Aankh’ Bollywood movie, starring Taapsee Pannu, Bhumi Pednekar
Former Attorney General of India Soli Sorabjee
Eminent jurist and former Attorney General of India Soli Sorabjee passed away due to COVID-19 complications today. Mr Sorabjee was involved in the Kesavananda Bharti case that endeavoured to protect the basic structure of the Constitution. He was also in the panel of the Bommai judgement, which cracked down on the misuse of Article 356 by the centre to dismiss state governments. Mr Sorabjee became Attorney General first in 1989 and then from 1998 to 2004. A passionate human rights lawyer, Mr Sorabjee was appointed a UN Special Rapporteur for Nigeria in 1997. He received the Padma Vibhushan for his defence of free speech and human rights.
