Olympic 2020 has been full of surprises and inspiring moments so far. The athletes setting new records in the Olympics. Here are the results and some special moments of the day: Being one of the youngest athletes in the Tokyo Olympics, Momiji Nishiya earned second gold for Japan. The 13-year-old completed a Japanese sweep in the Olympic skateboard street competition. “I didn’t think I could win, but everyone around me cheered me on so I’m glad I was able to find my groove”, said the Osaka born skater. Defending his title on the third day of Judo competition at Tokyo Olympics, Shohei Ono beat Georgia’s Lasha Shavdatuashvili in the men’s 73kg final. The 29-year-old Shohei had to dig deep against Lasha to save the title he won in Rio de Janeiro five years ago. However, Ono was so close to disqualification after having his second shido penalty. A third mistake could have handed the title to Shavdatuashvili, who is also a winner of 66kg gold at the 2012 London games but Ono handled it well. He is the first judoka to win multiple Olympic golds at 73kg and the fourth Japanese male judoka to defend the Olympic title. Japan has won six gold medals already in the weight class, the most by any nation in the Olympic 2020. Japan kept on shining as Jun Mizutani and Mima Ito made history as the pair gave the nation its first-ever table tennis Olympic gold medal at the Tokyo games. As we all know that the Olympics is full of inspiring stories, British diver Tom Daley made the world proud by earning his first gold medal at Tokyo 2020 under men’s 10-meter platform synchronized diving event. Being a Gay man, Tom proved that sexuality does not come in the way when you are eager to win and show your hard work to the whole world. It was definitely a pride moment for the LGBTQ community. “I feel incredibly proud to say that I am a Gay man and also an Olympic champion. I feel very empowered by that because when I was younger, I thought I was never going to achieve anything because of who I was”, said Daley. “I hope that any young LGBT person out there can see that no matter how alone you feel right now, you are not alone. That you can achieve anything”, added the 27-year-old diver. Daley has long been considered a national treasure since first becoming one of the UK’s best athlete outputs. Adam Peaty of Britain won the men’s 100-meter breaststroke final of the Tokyo Olympics on Monday as well. The U.S. remained undefeated and beat Japan in softball with a walk-off group stage win. Ally Carda, a player in Japan’s women league for Honda, started for the US. As per India’s fourth day in Olympics this year, the Indian men’s archery team of Pravin Jadhav, Atanu Das, and Tarundeep Rai lost to heavyweights Korea in the men’s team quarterfinal at the Tokyo 2020 on Monday. India’s women’s hockey team lost the second group match to Germany. India’s first Olympic fencer Bhavani Devi won on her debut but lost her round of 32 matches to get knocked out. Furthermore, boxer Ashish Kumar was defeated by Erbike Tuoheta (China) in the round of 32. Swimmer Sajan Prakash failed to qualify for the semi-finals as well. Manika Batra lost to World No 17 Sofia Polcanova of Austria to end her journey. Vishnu Saravanan, who was 14th on the first day in laser class, moved down to 25th. Nethra Kumanan dropped down from 27th to 28th as well. On the positive side, India won against Spain in hockey. Nevertheless, the day had a bright start for India but turned out disappointing later on. Another news is related to a typhoon moving northward from the Pacific that could make landfall on Japan’s main island on Tuesday. It will possibly lead to heavy rain in Tokyo, where the Olympics are going on, informed the weather agency on Monday. The Dominican Olympic Committee said Saturday that a player on the Dominican Republic’s Olympic baseball team was suspended for three months after he was tested positive for Cannabis. Though, the name of the athlete was not revealed by the committee.
