A young 13-year-old Jiya Rai made history by completing a task that only a few have tried to achieve. She took the task to swim from Thalaimannar in Sri Lanka to Arichalmunai’s Dhanushkodi in India. Both of these locations are one of many routes between the Sri Lankan and Indian respectively. With that said, Jiya Rai achieved her goal in 13 hours on Sunday.
Ironically, Jiya also suffers from autism herself and has been making constant efforts to spread awareness among the general public regarding the disorder that affects many children in India as of today.

Earlier in Feb 2021, the ace swimmer successfully achieved a similar feat in Mumbai when she swam for 36km. She completed the distance between the Bandra Worli Sea Link to the Gateway of India in order to spread awareness on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Also, she has swum the distance of 14km between Elephanta Island to Gateway of India back in February 2020 in merely 3 hours and 27 minutes. She was rewarded by Zarir N Baliwala, the President of the Greater Mumbai Amateur Aquatic Association (GMA) for her tremendous success as a swimmer.
