Let’s have a look at how the platform works:
- Victim calls up helpline number 1930 after loosing money to crooks.
- The call is attended by a police personnel, who asks for minimum mandatory details of the transaction.
- A token is generated and the beneficiary bank, wallet, or merchant is alerted to trace and ‘stop’ the amount.
- As soon as the digital alert is sounded, the system stops the flow of defrauded money and reports back to the platform.
- In case the money has been shifted to another financial intermediary, an alert is sent for freezing of the amount.
- The process is repeated till the amount has either been kept on temporary hold, withdrawn, or spent online.
- The complaint is notified through an SMS having the reference number and a link to www.cybercrime.gov.in
- A formal and detailed complaint is required to eb lodged by the victim within next 24 hours.
- After the complaint, police proceedings follow to retrieve and revert the money into the victim’s account.
- Efforts are initiated to trace the fraudster for invoking penal laws.
- In case no complaint is made within 24 hours of calling up the helpline, the ‘stopped’ money is released by the intermediary concerned to travel as per the instructions of the beneficiary.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has asked to give top priority to the victims who have undergone cyber fraud and to rescue them from the hassle of running around with their complaints and waiting for months to get their money back and criminals tracked.
