Well if you know Hollywood, then you know the Kardashians. Whatever they do, makes the headlines and the latest has been the engagement of Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker. With their impressive pictures from the beachside hotel in Montecito, California what also caught people’s attention was the gorgeous arrangement of roses from the Kardashian’s florist Jeff Leatham.
So, we decided to take a closer look at him!
Jeffery Brett Leatham is an American designer, mainly involved with floral works. Starting as a florist at the flower shop at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills, he is now the artistic director at George V Hotel and the Four Seasons Hotels in Beverly Hills and Philadelphia. and has established its fame as a “Flowerland hotel”. He has even been awarded the Chevalier Legion of Honour of France in 2014. He also does the floral design for the Wynn and Encore Casinos in Las Vegas, Macau and Boston.
His design collaborations in the world of fashion have included work with brands such as Louis Vuitton, Bulgari, Burberry and Cartier and a clientele that spans Tina Turner, Oprah Winfrey, Madonna, Hillary Clinton, Suzy Menkes, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Chateau de Versailles in France and the Windsor Castle. In Holland, a flower was named after Leatham in 2017. It is called the Jeff Leatham Vanda and it is purple. He is the literal rockstar of the flower business.
It all started with the TLC show called Flowers Uncut in 2009 that brought him to the limelight. According to Leatham himself, the weddings of Tina Turner and Chelsea Clinton has been his career highlights. When Tina Turner wed longtime love, Erwin Bach, she immediately recognized Leatham’s enormous wall of 140,000 roses as a nod to her trademark red lips. For the high-end Clinton wedding at the Astor Courts Estate in Rhinebeck, the highlight was the Jewish chuppah made of fresh hydrangeas and roses, which was said to have cost between $35,000 and $45,000.
“I create lasting memories, and I put smiles on people’s faces every day. That’s the best part of my job, from when we do a huge installation and people are like, ‘Oh my God,’ to the simplicity and the beauty”- says Leatham. He has been the florist for the whole Kardashians clan.
The now-iconic flower wall he created for Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s 2014 wedding kick-started a trend that, unlike cut flowers, will not die. In March 2018, Leatham designed Khloé Kardashian’s baby shower at the Hotel Bel-Air, an affair that included more than 20,000 carnations hanging from the ceiling with the roses imported from Ecuador and displayed alongside huge moss-covered elephants, another Leatham signature.
What’s trending? Jeff says – ‘I think that at the moment brides are going away from traditional white weddings and embracing colour’. But there was another masterpiece – When Iranian fashion model Nazanin Jafarian Ghaissarifar married Nigerian oil heir Folarin Alakija in June 2017, the wedding was held at Blenheim Palace, billowing waves of white roses—1 million in all—cascaded across the floors. Thousands of white orchids dripped from chandeliers and reached in marshmallow arcs over fireplaces. The church altarpiece was made of hydrangeas.
But even if you haven’t known of all these occasions, there is no way you were oblivious to Isha Ambani’s wedding to Anand Piramal. One of the aspects was its massive floral arrangements – for the wedding, Antilla was covered in a sky of red roses and scented candles. Leatham and his team were flown in for the installation of the massive entrance that featured in all the pictures.
