Tips and tricks to maintain a healthy skin during holi

One of our favourite festivals is just around the corner, and we can’t wait to get out and enjoy and have a time of our life. Holi- the festival of colors, bhang, gujia, amazing food, close knit group of friends and family and much more. In the moment of joy we often forget to take care of our skin. And I am sure most of you would agree with me on that.In hindsight we often contemplate the measures we could have taken to avoid that skin rashes, pimple, redness or discoloration etc. So, this time we have got you some tips and tricks that you must follow in order to play carefree holi.

Pre-Holi

Grease it up

I know many would be aware of this and it surely is one of the best remedies to protect your skin from harmful colors. Always put a thick layer of oil on your whole body as well as your hair before going out to play with colors. It acts as a barrier from harmful chemicals and bacteria that causes skin irritation and pimples.

Sunscreen is a must

Holi is always played outdoors so make sure you put sunscreen. Exposure to the sun without sunscreen along with colors and water can make things worse for your skin. Try to put a thick layer of sunscreen before you apply any other lotion or oil on your body.

Don’t forget your nails

Nails and hands get more damaged with colors than any other body part, the colored patches on your nail as well as on your hand can last upto 1 week even after holi. In order to avoid that, make sure you paint your nails, so that color covers your nail paint and you can remove it afterwards leaving your nails healthy and color free.

Petroleum jelly instead of lipstick

Petroleum jelly keeps your lips hydrated and protected from colors and atmosphere. You can also use it on your face too instead of oil. The grease in the jelly is equivalent to oil so it can also be used as a substitute of oil.

Post-Holi

Go gentle

Your skin has already been through so much so don’t use harsh soaps and cleansers. Be gentle on your skin, don’t over wash to get all the color out in one go. Make sure to apply oil like coconut or olive on your face with a cotton ball just to remove colors before you wash your face.

Stay hydrated

Drink ample amounts of water throughout the day. Holi also involves heavy drinking of alcohol and bhang that can dehydrate your body so always remember to stay hydrated even when your party is finished. Have a light dinner and drink at least 8-10glasses of water.

Moisturize and exfoliate

Exfoliate your skin a day after holi. Next day or 2-3 days after holi is an ideal time to exfoliate your skin. Use a sheet mask to hydrate your skin and revive the lost moisturize. Harsh colors strip out necessary moisture and oil your skin needs to keep it smooth and healthy. Sheet mask and exfoliation will help you to get back your lost glow.
