Established in 1943, Kankatala Sarees is 78 years old, 3 generation strong legacy brand known for its Authentic Handwoven Sarees. Emerging from the heart of Andhra Pradesh, the brand has created an omnichannel presence with 11 stores spread across Andhra Pradesh & Telangana and a strong eCommerce channel that caters to the Indian diaspora worldwide.

What makes the brand truly one of a kind is the fact that it houses more than ten thousand exclusive handwoven sarees that are handpicked by a Kankatala family member, this ensures that each saree is unique in its way and only the finest quality products are presented to their customers. Each Kankatala saree is as unique as its patrons. The brand is known for its authentic handloom bridal sarees of Kanchipuram, Banarasi, Paithani, Patolas and it also hosts a variety of other Indian weaves that include Ikat, Kotas, Uppadas, Khadi, Jamdani, Organza, Kalamkari, Gadwal, Tussar, etc all sourced from weaving clusters spread across India. Started in 1943 by founder and first-generation entrepreneur Shri Kankatala Appalaraju as a modest single store nestled in the old town of Visakhapatnam during the pre-independent India period, from selling the sarees door to door on a bicycle Kankatala has come a long way and grown a legacy to reckon with.

Since its inception, the brand has pioneered many trends to adapt to changing market dynamics and evolving consumer habits while also doing their bit in keeping the Indian heritage alive. Every generation’s leadership has contributed to the evolution of the brand or pioneering trends. The second-generation leader Mr. Kankatala Mallikharjuna Rao introduced Kankatala as a modern retail outlet in 1982 with the first-ever Air-conditioned store of Visakhapatnam. Currently, the third generation of Kankatala, Mr. Arvind Kankatala, Mr. Bharat Kankatala, and Mr. Anirudh Kankatala are driving the brand. Under their leadership, the brand is adapting to the new and emerging trends of the market & customer requirements. Under the guidance of Mr. Anirudh Kankatala, the brand has created a successful digital footprint to cater to Indians across the world. With the management being passed on to three generations the brand has acquired a loyal customer base who have been shopping from Kankatala for generations.

Currently, the brand employs more than 800 locals to run its stores and eCommerce division. With a vision to provide an Indian woman with an authentic, one-of-a-kind saree, while ensuring to maintain inclusivity for every budget & occasion, Kankatala hosts sarees starting from INR.500 and goes up to INR.5lac.

Anirudh Kankatala is the 3rd generation member of the Kankatala family, who has played an integral role in taking the homegrown brand digital & global. With his passion for exclusive Indian handlooms and intricately handcrafted textiles, Anirudh had decided to join the family business quite early on in life. Anirudh envisioned a digital transformation for Kankatala and has successfully managed to revamp it as a brand with traditional ethos, at par with the changing times.
