The Wheelchair Cricket India Association (WCIA) is going to host the Wheelchair Cricket Camp at City Hawks Sports Complex, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh from 16th March to 21st March, 2021. The 5-day long camp will witness a gathering of 45 of India’s best wheelchair cricketers trained to determine the future of the Indian Wheelchair Cricket team. The camp will be attended by star players of the Wheelchair Cricket India Association like Indian Wheelchair Cricket Team Captain, Somjeet Singh from Uttar Pradesh, Rohit Anotra, Punjab; Anmol Vashisht, Uttar Pradesh; Saurabh Malik, Delhi; Bheema Kunti, Gujarat.
As per sources, the training session will be conducted on the first three days of the camp, i.e, from 17th March to 19th March 2021, where 24 players will be shortlisted which will then be divided into two teams — India A and India B.
Squadron Leader Abhai Pratap Singh (Retd.), Founder and CEO of Wheelchair Cricket India Association says, “WCIA has been organizing such camps on a regular basis to provide a platform to wheelchair cricketers across the country. It is a great opportunity for players to meet and interact before the Nationals. The Selection Committee of the WCIA also selects players for the Indian WheelChair Cricket Team.”
The camp will be organizing practice matches every day, and the esteemed Selection Committee will select players for the National team as well. There will be a series of 20-over matches on the last two days of the National Camp between the two teams. The final match between the two teams is scheduled for the 20th of March, 2021. The camp is being organized ahead of the much-awaited 3rd National Wheelchair Cricket Championship which is to be held in April 2021.
